Ik ga het hebben over het lied Somebody Loan Me A Dime van Boz Scaggs en Duane Allman. Boz Scaggs is geboren in 1944 als William Ryce Scaggs in Ohio. Hij is een singer-songwriter-gitarist.
Duane Allman is één van de legendarische broers van de Allman Brothers Band, hij staat bekend als een van de beste zoniet de beste gitarist aller tijden.

Het lied gaat over een man die wat geld nodig heeft om zijn vrouw te bellen.

Muzikaal is het een van de beste liedjes die ik ken. Het duurt 13 minuten en er is een constante afwisseling tussen verbazende gitaarsolo’s en zang. Beiden worden ondersteund door drums, piano en een orgel (?). Het led vertraagt meestal wat als de stem van Boz Scaggs erbij komt en versnelt dan weer als de solo begint.

Er zijn van dit lied spijtig genoeg geen lyrics noch tabs te vinden.

Deze keer hebben we het over Lucille van BB King. BB King is een van de meest bekendste blues-artiesten. BB King is geboren in 1925 en heeft dan ook een enorm repertoire.

Dit lied gaat over zijn gitaar die hij Lucille noemt. In dit lied vertelt hij hoe hij op de naam van Lucille komt en wat zij voor hem betekend. Ook vertelt hij hoe het komt waarom hij blues speelt.
Dit lied heeft een simpele drum ondersteuning en een leuke piano. Daar bovenop komt Lucille die de pannen van het dak speelt.

Er zijn spijtig genoeg tabs noch lyrics te vinden van dit nummer .  Verwar het lied ook niet met het lied “My Lucille” ook van BB King. Dit lied duurt 10:11 minuten.

Deze keer gaat het over Where Did You Sleep van Nirvana. Nirvana is een legendarische grunge-band uit begin jaren ’90. De frontman Kurt Cobain pleegde zelfmoord in ’94. Een van hun bekendste hits is “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

Het lied gaat over een man die het niet aan kan dat zijn meisje hem bedriegt “Where did you sleep last night” en uiteindelijk ook zelfmoord pleegt “His head was found in a driving wheel;But his body never was found“.

Het lied word begeleid met een akoestische gitaar en er is een ondersteunende drum aanwezig. Er is ook een baslijn aanwezig die niet opvalt maar het lied ook ondersteund.

Dit artikel gaat over het lied Time Is On My side van The Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones is een engelse rockgroep opgericht in begin jaren ’60. Ze zijn bekend geworden met onder andere het lied Satisfacton.

Het lied gaat over een vrouw die is weggegaan op zoek naar meer vrijheid en dan de man die zichzelf probeert aan te praten dat ze wel terugkomt, hij wilt haar nog lang niet opgeven “Time is on my side”.  Je zou ook kunnen zeggen dat ze echt terug zal komen, maar waarom doet hij dan zoveel moeite om ons en hem zelf te overtuigen dat ze terugkomt?

Het lied begint erg leuk met een hoge sologitaar, na een 15-tal seconden komt de stem van Mick Jagger erbij samen met de drums en een slaggitaar. Het refrein is meerstemmig voor de rest is er niet echt iets speciaal aan het lied.

Dit artikel gaat over het lied Creep van Radiohead. Radiohead is een britse band, ietwat alternatief ingesteld die een enorme hit scoorde met dit lied. Radiohead begon eind jaren ’80 maar kreeg faam in 1993 met onder andere dit lied.

Het lied gaat over een liefde die de man niet kan krijgen. Hij voelt zich niets, onwaardig tegenover haar. Hij beschrijft zichzelf als een “creep” een “weirdo” terwijl zij beschreven word als “so fucking special” en ” You’re just like an angel”. hij heeft zelf een enorm laag zelfbeeld terwijl zij word verhemeld.

Het lied begint met een simpele drum en wat gitaaarspel dan komt de zachte stem van Thom Yorke erbij de eerste twee strofes worden gezongen en er komt een ssort van climax die word ingezet door een rauwe harde elektrische gitaar, deze word later afgebroken en het lied gaat door als voorheen.

Dit artikel gaat over het lied Hard Times van The Scabs. The Scabs is een bekende belgische groep die gevormd is in 1982 door onder andere Guy Swinnen (foto).

Het lied gaat over een man die zijn lief bedriegt en zich nu ook enorm schuldig voelt. Hijj verontschuldigd zich via dit lied waar hij zegt dat hij haar “Hard Times” heeft gegeven.

Muzikaal is er een constante slaggitaar soms wat sologitaar en een ondersteunende drum. Verder is er in het refrein nog een mannelijke achtergrond stem. Al bij al een leuk poppy deuntje dat lang genoeg blijft hangen.

Dit artikel gaat over het lied If I Could van Jack Johnson, Jack Johnson is een Hawaiiaan die de meeste van liedjes enkel begeleid met een akoestische gitaar. Hij was eerst een surfer maar na een ongeluk moest hij het surfen opgeven en richtte hij zich volledig op de muziek.

In dit lied probeert hij denk ik de machteloosheid te verwoorden die hij voelt als er mensen dood gaan. Dit laat hij zien met een voorbeeld.

Muzikaal is het een net niet typisch Jack Johnson lied vanwege de mondharmnica (?) die er soms komt bij springen. Een akoestische gitaar die een zachte mannenstem begeleid dus. Het lied geeft goed weer wat je van Jack Johnson kan verwachten.

Dit artikel gaat ovcer het lied Bungle In The Jungle van Jethro Tull, Jethro Tull is een brite (progressieve) rock groep opgericht in 1968. Bungle In The Jungle was oorspronkelijk bedoeld als filmmuziek maar dit is niet doorgegaan. Bungle In The Jungle is ook totaal tegen de verwachting in een zomerhit geworden in de USA.

Ik denk dat Bungle In The Jungle een lied is dat de hedendaagse maatschappij vergelijkt met een dierenrijk en er zo ook kritiek op levert.

Muzikaal is er een grote diversiteit, je hebt de slaggitaar, een stukje solgitaar, de fluit (het handelsmerk van Jethro Tull) maar je hebt ook een paar leuke strijkers. Dit alles word samengesmolten tot een aanstekelijk deuntje wat natuurlijk een van de redenen is dat het een zomerhit werd in Amerika.

Mijn derde artikel gaat over The Ballad Of Hollis Brown van Bob Dylan. Bob dylan word geboren als Robert Allen Zimmerman op 24 mei 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. Later veranderd hij zijn naam in Bob Dylan en gaat hij touren met de band The Band. Het lied waar ik het ga over hebben komt van de CD The Times They Are-A Changin uit 1964, een van zijn eerste albums en naar mijn mening ook een van de beste zoniet het beste.

Het lied gaat over Hollis Brown een werkloze met 5 kinderen die niet uit de problemen geraakt en uiteindelijk maar een uitweg ziet. De tekst beschrijft de ergernissen van de man erg goed en zorgen voor een soort sympathie voor de man. Het plaatje is helemaal compleet als je je inbeeld dat dit lied geschreven is in 1964 of vroeger.

Muzikaal is een enkele gitaarriff die word herhaald en dat is het. Ik hou wel van van zo’n simpele opzet. Ook een van de redenen dat ik de cd zo goed vind.

Mijn tweede artikel gaat over het lied Moondance van Van Morrison.
Van Morrison is een singer-songwriter uit Belfast, Ierland. Van Morrison is al meer dan 40 jaar actief in de muziekwereld eerst bij de groep Them, daarna solo.

Ik heb gisteren een tiental liedjes van Van Morrison gedownload en dit sprong er zeker uit. Het lied gaat gewoon over de liefde. Zijn liefde beter gezegd, waarbij hij wilt zijn. Het refrein vat dit redelijk duidelijk samen.

Muzikaal verrast het aardig vaak beginnend met een simpele gitaar-riff met een zachte drum achter. Dan komt er een slaggitaar bij. En dan als Van Morisson zijn stem wat verheft komt er een soort fluit bij, deze blijft de rest van het lief begeleiden. Erg passend.
